Evergreen Kids Curriculum/Job Description Page

SO YOU WANT TO HELP OUT WITH THE KIDDOS:

Here’s a look at a typical Sunday morning in the kids room as well as job descriptions for the various volunteers.

All volunteers must be cleared by submitting a background check. Forms can be found at the top of this page or at the check-in table in the kids room.

Schedule for Sunday Morning:

9:40-9:55 set-up/ coordinator leads prayer with volunteers

(9:50- 10:10- musician leads kids in songs)

9:55-10:10 welcome children and help engage in songs,
coloring, or toys

10:10- 10:25 game (start with this on first Sunday of month)

10:25-10:35 Bible story/ questions/ prayer

10:35-10:45 activity/ craft/ tie in to Bible story

10:45-10:55 free play while activiy or craft is finished up

10:55-11:05 game

11:05- 11:15 wash hands (purell) snacktime

11:15- – until every child is picked up: watch dvd/ clean up -wipe down toys – note if more snacks are needed – Coordinator reports back to Admin with needs

Every first Sunday of the month kids stay with parents in main room for songs and story (til around 10:25?) Keep door closed with sign that states this so parents know what’s happening. Then be ready to help quickly check kids in.

Administrator:

Frequency: Throughout the week, though not needed in the room on Sunday

Number of people needed: 1 per location

Skills Needed:
Able to pray for the volunteers
Very good email communication
Good organization skills
Will follow up with people

Responsibilities: (Mainly during the week) 1. Communicate the needs of the ministry mainly in terms of volunteers needed. 2. Coordinates the Children ministry gatherings (3 per year). 3. Responsible for managing the forum concerning kids needs. 4. Coordinates regularly with the person responsible for clearing volunteers. 5. Maintains blank applications for volunteers on Sunday.

Coordinator

Frequency: One Sunday morning per month for 4 months (see calendar for current schedule: http://www.evergreenlife.org/web/boards/index.php?topic=3329.0)

Number of people needed: 4 (One each Sunday of the month)

Skills Needed:
Comfortable directing adults
Able to pray for the volunteers
Good email communication
Able to arrive Sunday by 9:40 at latest

Responsibilities:
Mainly on Sunday morning 1. Oversee set up of the room for safety and age appropriate play 2. Gather volunteer helpers and give the outline for the day 3. Pray with volunteers before the start of service and remind them of safety issues. 4. Be a “go to” person during service for teachers 5. Oversee the breakdown and clean-up of the room 6. Report back to Admin when running low on snacks or other supplies.

Bible Teacher:

Frequency: One Sunday morning per month for 4 months (see calendar for current schedule: http://www.evergreenlife.org/web/boards/index.php?topic=3329.0)

Number of people needed: 4 (Rotating through the month)

Skills Needed:
Must be able to prepare story ahead of time by reading and thinking about
how to talk with the kids about the story. Ask questions and engage kids in story. Work with activity teacher to coordinate relevant activity.

Responsibilities: 1. Come prepared with a Bible story and some follow-up questions 2. Stay in the kids area for the whole service 3. Help set up and tear down 4. Arrive no later than 9:40am 5. Connect with the kids before and after the teaching 6. Find a sub and communicate to the Administrator. 7. Bring take-home page for kids which consists of Bible story reference and question or two for parents to ask kids. Email copy to Administrator so we can use again.

Activity Teacher (formerly “craft” teacher)

Frequency: One Sunday morning per month for 4 months (see calendar for current schedule: http://www.evergreenlife.org/web/boards/index.php?topic=3329.0)

Number of people needed: 4 (Rotating through the month)

Skills Needed:
Able to come up with an activity or art project related to the Bible story.
Good at walking kids though activity and making connection to story.
Can clearly communicate tasks to adults and kids.

Responsibilities: Mainly during Sunday 1. Come prepared with an activity and some follow-up questions 2. Stay in the kids area for the whole service 3. Help set up and tear down 4. Arrive no later than 9:40 am 5. Connect with the kids before and after the teaching 6. Find sub if needed and communicate to Administrator 7. Communicate the activity the Bible Teacher during previous week.

Note: there is a craft bin with scissors, glue sticks, paper and many interesting odds and ends. Another great resource is http://www.scrapaction.org

ALSO REMEMBER: the point of the activity/ craft is not to have something fancy to show the parents. It’s to help the kids interact with the Bible story. You don’t have to send something home at all. (don’t get me wrong- it’s okay to have a cool craft- but the most important thing is that the kids are learning the stories, even if it’s on a super basic level that they build on the next time they hear the story)

Teachers Aid

Frequency: One Sunday morning per month for 4 months (see calendar for current schedule: http://www.evergreenlife.org/web/boards/index.php?topic=3329.0)

Number of people needed: 12 rotating through the month/ 3 per week

Skills Needed:
Hang with kids and keep them safe. Support Bible and craft teacher.

Responsibilities: 1. Arrive no later than 9:40 am. 2. Help set up and tear down. 3. Welcome children, help with name tags, engage in activities. 4. Stay in the kids area for the whole service. 5. Take Children to restroom if necessary (two volunteers) Get parent if diaper change is necessary. 6. Play with kids. 7. Help kids participate in each activity. 8. Wipe down toys with clorox wipes during tear down.

Song Leader:

Frequency: One Sunday morning per month for 4 months (see calendar for current schedule: http://www.evergreenlife.org/web/boards/index.php?topic=3329.0)

Number of people needed: 4 (Rotating through the month)

Skills Needed: Not afraid to look silly.

Responsibilities: Lead kids in several songs from 9:50- 10:10. Not required to stay in kids room once song time is over.

Note: kids instruments are available in one of the plastic bins.
